Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom Prepare Full-Length LP

"We just decided we were gonna have fun together, recognizing in each other an eagerness to make something happen. So we just danced all night together, when nobody else danced."
That is how Gavin Russom recounts the first time he met Delia Gonzalez and both have without a doubt channeled that same energy into their art ever since. After years of experimenting in various areas-- from film to set design to modern dance-- the two have announced the release of their first full-length album on New York electro-dance powerhouse label DFA.
Gonzalez and Russom are part of the DFA beat-bending artists that include Black Dice, LCD Soundsystem, and the Juan MacLean, among others. The duo are set to release the album, Days of Mars, in October. The album will have only four tracks, but it is probably more accurate to describe each song as a "voyage" rather than a simple track.
Days of Mars will also feature the track "Rise", which appeared on the latest DFA compilation. Russom describes his hope for the album as "a spiritual experience that [takes] you somewhere," something that seems perfectly natural after their single from 2004, "El Monte", a meditational raga masked in continuous and hypnotizing electrosynth beats. The album, the title of which is a reference to the novel of the same name by author Winifred Bryher, will expand upon analog synthesizer to work its way beyond the audio and into visual formation according to the duo. "Since everything we do is theatrical, our music becomes like a soundtrack," Gonzalez explains. In fact, the two are also now working on a short film for the album's third track, "Relevee". The journey broken down into four voyages:
01 Rise
02 Black Spring
03 Relevee
04 13 Moons
